It’s time for a brand new Wildheart of the Month (WOM)! Every month we interview one of our Wildhearts. We ask them about their Crossfit journey, their day job, their favorite movements and about some of her goofy stuff. This month our WOM is Marije Kuijer (30), scientific teacher at the labor law section of Erasmus University, a Wildheart since 3 years and a few months!
The woman in the mirror
‘I used to have a legal profession, but I realized that it was not for me. At the time it was a hard decision to make and it is partially because of CrossFit I was able to do that. Doing CrossFit has taught me a lot about myself because of the continuous confrontation you’ll have of all the things you can or can’t do (yet). It really made me more aware of my capabilities and limitations and all the decision making that comes with that. It’s like holding a mirror in front of yourself each day evaluating and making yourself accountable for every decision that you’ll make. Realizing that made me free, in the sense that I know that only I hold the power of the end result of every decision I make'.
‘Every time I walk out of the box I feel better than I came in and that’s something really special’.
Me, myself and the Crew
‘I played field hockey, together with Wildheart Mieke and Meander for a while and I loved the fact that our team was filled with friends, but also that all my team members where pretty competitive and took things serious. At time we knew that CrossFit Wildhearts (Sixforty at the time) moved in the current location, which was behind my apartment, and did a boxing try-out together with Mieke because at the time you could do CrossFit and boxing. I was still working in Amsterdam, so some time passed by before Mieke told me to join the CrossFit classes because they where super enthusiastic about it. So I did and really fell in love with CrossFit but also because I could do this with my friends. Another big reason was because of how you guys do things here at CrossFit Wildhearts…I really got welcomed with open arms and it felt like coming home’.
Team work makes the dream work
‘I love team workouts! If I could choose, I would always do a team workout because I love to push and empower each other to a next level. Especially if the movements are not too technical or complicated, I’ll be a happy girl. I’m more of a powerhouse and that’s why I always struggle with technical and complicated movements, so rather give me burpees or power cleans so I can go, go, go…! Put me in a team and I can push even a little harder, because mentally I’ll be in the zone'.
Up for a challenge
‘Dreadful are the movements where I’ll need my arms for. It’s a real weak spot where I know I need to work on. I will do them, but not because I want to and I never run away for it as well. That’s also something that I love about CrossFit... it is that you’ll always get challenged to get better every single workout and fight your weaknesses. Cherry picking is not a word you can find in my dictionary’.
Favorite Wildheart memory
‘The Wildhearts Club Games of last year without a doubt! That year was the first year you had to qualify for the final event and so I did and even in the RX division, which came as a big surprise. The atmosphere is simply magic and the event was organized so well, that you feel like flying on a pink cloud for a whole weekend’.
Stay tuned for our next Wildheart of the Month!
