Wildheart of the Month | Nicky

It’s time for a brand new Wildheart of the Month (WOM)! Every month we interview one of our Wildhearts. We ask them about their Crossfit journey, their day job, their favorite movements and about some of her goofy stuff. This month our WOM is Nicky Bosman (30), pediatric nurse practitioner at a children’s hospital, a Wildheart for over a year!

The start of my CrossFit 'addiction'

‘I started CrossFit a few years ago on the tropical island Aruba! I was living there for a while and my neighbor told me to join a CrossFit class with her. I was a little hesitant in the beginning, because I heard a lot bad injury related stories about CrossFit. I think that was because Aruba is very American oriented and because of that there where are lot of rumors about the dangers of doing CrossFit. Eventually I decided to try it out and after joining two classes I was hooked. The classes where just so much fun and that’s how my CrossFit 'addiction' started’.

Back home

‘Four years ago I came back home to the Netherlands and at the time there wasn’t a CrossFit box anywhere close to my home, Leiden. After about half a year a brand new CrossFit affiliate opened their doors, CrossFit Leiden. That’s when I started doing CrossFit again, so I've been doing CrossFit for about four years and still going strong’.

What I love about CrossFit is that it’s for everybody even if you have limitations!

Becoming a Wildheart

‘About a year and a half ago I was going to move to Rotterdam to work at Sophia Children’s hospital and was trying to find a new CrossFit box. So, I asked my coaches at CrossFit Leiden if they knew a box which they would recommend and they’ve told me to visit CrossFit Wildhearts, which I did. Eventually I tried almost all boxes in Rotterdam, to see which one would fit me best and found out that CrossFit Wildhearts was the place to be for me. The reason for that is just the way how I got welcomed by everyone and how the classes are structured… it just felt good. So now I proudly call myself a true Wildheart‘.

Getting better is fun!

‘When you get better at movements, that’s when things are getting fun! That's why I really love to snatch, because I'm slowly getting better at it ;) I don’t feel scared anymore to drop underneath the bar and that’s awesome! Another movement that I started to love is the handstand push-up, because recently I started to understand what I need to do in order to perform a few reps! Slow progress is still progress and we should cherish those little victories'.

The beauty of CrossFit

‘What I love about CrossFit is that it’s for everybody even if you have limitations! The fact that there is always a way to do CrossFit is something unique. I love that the coaches are so helpful and more than prepared to help you scale any workout. So, there is no reason not being able to start or keep training’.

Favorite Wildheart memory

‘My favorite Wildheart memory is last year’s Club Games!

It was just an awesome weekend going all out with my team and we eventually became third! I loved the fact that the teams were made and that you would bond in a very short timeframe. I just love the community aspect here at CrossFit Wildhearts’.

Stay tuned for our next Wildheart of the Month!
